Rembrandt House
Rembrandt van Rijn was born in Leiden in 1606 and went to Amsterdam in 1631. Together with his wife Saskia he lived in the Rembrandt House which he bought in 1639 at the peak of his fame. In 1641 their son Titus was born. Due to illness, Saskia died in 1642. In that same year Rembrandt finished his masterpiece, The Night Watch. Rembrandt lived through a personal and artistic crisis and became an even more accomplished artist. Rembrandt died in 1669. The completely restored house is now a museum. Wandering through the historic interior of 17th century rooms, you can image yourself back in Rembrandt’s time.
