Former Police Station Warmoesstraat

Politiebureau WarmoesstraatUntil the end of 2000 the famous police station Warmoesstraat was located here. The building at number 48 was put into use in 1903 and expanded later to three additional buildings. By connecting four different 17th and 18th century buildings, the station ended up with a labyrinth-like interior with small hallways, stairs and all sorts of dangerous steps. Officers working at Warmoesstraat had to deal with all kinds of crimes: pickpockets, car thieves, vandals, burglars, drug dealers, liquidations, physical violence, street robbery, trafficking in women, corruption and illegal gambling. One of these officers was Baantjer who worked there for 28 years and wrote crime novels based on his experience. Many of his novels have been translated into English and German.
