Oost - Indisch Huis

The Oost-Indisch Huis (East India House) is located at Oude Hoogstraat 24. The East India Company (Verenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie or VOC) was set up in 1602 and was the first international company with shareholders. This company focused on the trade between Europe and Asia, as well as trade within Asia. The VOC was located in the Oost-Indisch Huis until its bankruptcy in 1798. The building nowadays belongs to the University of Amsterdam. The original boardroom is worth a visit.
