Ons' Lieve Heer op Solder ( Museum Our Lord in the Attic)
Ons' Lieve Heer op Solder is one of the city's oldest museums. This beautiful 17th century house served as a ‘hidden church’. Private churches were common in the Northern Netherlands, born of necessity when in 1581 the practice of the Catholic religion was prohibited. Visitors are taken back in time almost 350 years and wander through corridors, rooms, kitchens and stairs to the jewel of the museum: the magnificent church in the attic. In 1887 a group of Amsterdam Catholics bought the building to protect it against demolition.
Opening times
Monday until Saturday 10am–5pm Sunday and holidays 1pm–5pm closed on 1 January and 30 April.
