Hermitage Amsterdam
The Hermitage Amsterdam is located in the beautifully restored Amstelhof, that opened his doors in 1683, providing shelter to 400 elderly women. Above the central monumental entrance (a false door) the original inscription is still visible: Diaconie Oude Vrouwen Huys anno 1681 (the title refers to the shelter for women). Today the building looks from the outside the way it looked in 1683, when it opened: a strong building with a sober quality. Inside, however, everything is different. The Hermitage Amsterdam is an impressive museum with exhibition halls, a study centre and an auditorium. In the Hermitage Amsterdam not only special exhibitions are organized, but also concerts, readings and courses.
