Climb the tower of the Beurs van Berlage!

The Beurs van Berlage opens her tower for the public from April 7, 2012. The distinctive tower is 40 metres high and provides the visitor with a magnificent view at the historic city centre of Amsterdam (UNESCO- world heritage). Every Saturday and Sunday, from 11am to 4pm a guided tour leaves to the top. Entree € 3,50 per person. The tower is unfortunately not accessible for the disabled and children younger than 5 years. Reservation not possible.

Impressionism: Sensation & Inspiration

Highlights from the Hermitage

From 16 June 2012 to 13 January 2013, the Hermitage Amsterdam will present Impressionism: Sensation & Inspiration: the world-famous Impressionist paintings from the vast collection of the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, in their artistic context. Masterpieces by pioneers like Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Alfred Sisley will be accompanied by the work of other influential French painters from the second half of the nineteenth century, such as Eugène Delacroix and Jean-Léon Gérôme. The exhibition will focus on contrasts between artistic movements. For instance, visitors will see and experience the sensational quality of Impressionism, the movement that heralded a new age. All the paintings, drawings, and sculptures will come from the collection of the St. Petersburg Hermitage. Seldom has such a rich survey of this period been on display in the Netherlands.

Van Gogh collection will move temporarely to the Hermitage Amsterdam during the renovation

More than seventy Van Gogh masterpieces, supplemented by letters and prints on paper from the collection of the Van Gogh Museum, will be exhibited from  September 29,  2012 to April 25, 2013 in the Imperial wing of the Hermitage. Like that the works remain accessible for the many tourists and visitors from home and abroad.

 

ADVERTISING: real craftsmanship

In the past the Amsterdam Marionette Theatre has worked for advertisers. This summer ​​two puppeteers of the AMT were part of the production crew of the latest commercial for KARWEI. Olaf the boy dreams of a tree house and together with his Teddy Bear they walk with on a rope towards his dream house. From September this commercial will be shown on TV.

Masterpieces from the Van Gogh Museum temporarily on view in the Hermitage Amsterdam

The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam will begin renovation at the end of 2012 in order to ensure the condition of the building and the safety of the visitors in the long run, Axel Rüger, director of the museum, announced. Masterpieces by Van Gogh, including approximately 75 paintings and a number of works on paper, will remain on view during the renovation: they will be presented in the Herenvleugel of the Hermitage Amsterdam .

 

Anniversary Restaurant-Café In De Waag 1996 - 2011

This impressive building in the middle of the Nieuwmarkt was built in 1488 as a city gate. Over the centuries the building has had multiple destinations. Since 1996 Restaurant-Café In de Waag is located on the ground floor of the building, celebrating this year the 15-year anniversary. For this occasion, beautiful plates have been made​​. The plate shows a drawing, copied from a painting about 1880. Unfortunately, the painter of the painting is not known.
