Old Church (Oude Kerk)
The Oude Kerk (Old Church) is the first church of Amsterdam. Since 800 years people have been praying, buried, trading, making music and getting married here. 10.000 special inhabitants of Amsterdam are resting here, amongst whom composer Sweelinck, the wives of Rembrandt and of poet Vondel, naval heroes, majors and statesmen. European monument, ‘drawing room of the city’ and ‘port church’. Splendid acoustics, ornaments, light and awesome silence… This beautiful monument with a rich history is open for visitors.
